This is a 9 inch diameter bowl, 4.25 inches tall. I have some large chunks of Spalted Maple that I need to turn into something before they get too dry. This one is heavily spalted. This is the deepest bowl I've made so far. Unfortunately, there's a small crack on the rim, though not bad. This was wet sanded up to 400 grit with mineral oil. I added a coat of boiled linseed oil. I may wax it in a few days. Nicely shaped bowl with a cove under-cut at the base, which forms the foot of the bowl. I also added a textured center detail on the underside of the bowl.

Scrap Wood Bowl
This is a 7 inch bowl, 1.5 inches high. Segmented Poplar sides, and the base is solid woods, Spalted Maple in the center and a mystery wood on either side (Rosewood, Mahogany, Cherry?). This was, as usual, wet sanded with mineral oil up to a grit of 400, then finished off with a couple coats of Museum Wax, buffed. I did a little textured center detail on the bottom side of the bowl, made with a home-made texturing tool I built myself.

Small Cherry/Poplar Bowl
This is a six inch diameter bowl, 1.5 inches high, with segmented Poplar sides and a Cherry wood base. It was wet sanded with mineral oil up to a grit of 400. A coat of Museum Wax was applied as a final treatment. I'm not sure that's Cherry wood. It was really hard stuff. I thought it might be Mahogany but the grain is too tight, wood too hard, doesn't smell like Mahogany. Rosewood? Not sure.

Small Walnut Wood Canister
In wood turning they call this a box. This one is 3.25 inches high and 2.25 inches in diameter. The knob is Cherry wood. This box was mineral oil wet sanded then burnished with its wood shavings. The lid doesn't fit as snug as I'd like. I got the grain to line up nicely between the lid and the base. I love working with Walnut. Beautiful wood. Nice to turn.

Small Walnut Bowl
This is a 3.5 inch diameter Walnut wood bowl, 2 inches high. Wet sanded with mineral oil up to 400 grit, then burnished with its own wood shavings. Lovely little piece of wood.

5 Inch Walnut Bowl
Here's a 5 inch diameter Walnut wood bowl, 1.75 inches high. It was wet sanded with mineral oil up to 400 grit, then polished with its own wood shavings. A beautiful little chunk of wood. I did a little texturing on the bottom with my home made texturing tool.

8 Inch Spalted Maple Bowl
Here's an 8 inch diameter Spalted Maple bowl 1.75 inches high. This was wet sanded with mineral oil. I did a little texturing on the bottom: rings done with a parting tool and the texturing done with a home made, by me, texturing tool.
