Segmented Multi-Wood Box

Click on an image to see larger version.

Here's a segmented box measuring 6 inches in diameter and 6 inches high. It is made from a stack of 12-segment rings. The wood in these layers are , from top to bottom, Redwood, Spalted Maple, Redwood, in "checkered" ring the lighter wood is Cherry, darker wood is Mahogany, the lightest colored center band is Maple, then another segmented section of Cherry and Mahogany, then Redwood, Spalted Maple, and a Redwood base. This was my most challenging wood turning project so far. This was mineral oil wet sanded up to a 400 grit to a satin-feel surface.

Small Pear Wood Bowl

Here's a small Pear wood bowl I turned last week end. It measures 1.5 inches high and 2 inches in diameter. That's a bit of the layer underneath the bark that is left on the side of the bowl. Lovely wood to work with; turns nicely look good, not much grain. This was wet sanded with mineral oil up to a grit of 400.
