9 Inch Spalted Maple Bowl

This is a 9 inch diameter bowl, 4.25 inches tall. I have some large chunks of Spalted Maple that I need to turn into something before they get too dry. This one is heavily spalted. This is the deepest bowl I've made so far. Unfortunately, there's a small crack on the rim, though not bad. This was wet sanded up to 400 grit with mineral oil. I added a coat of boiled linseed oil. I may wax it in a few days. Nicely shaped bowl with a cove under-cut at the base, which forms the foot of the bowl. I also added a textured center detail on the underside of the bowl.

Scrap Wood Bowl

This is a 7 inch bowl, 1.5 inches high. Segmented Poplar sides, and the base is solid woods, Spalted Maple in the center and a mystery wood on either side (Rosewood, Mahogany, Cherry?). This was, as usual, wet sanded with mineral oil up to a grit of 400, then finished off with a couple coats of Museum Wax,  buffed. I did a little textured center detail on the bottom side of the bowl, made with a home-made texturing tool I built myself.

Small Cherry/Poplar Bowl

This is a six inch diameter bowl, 1.5 inches high, with segmented Poplar sides and a Cherry wood base. It was wet sanded with mineral oil up to a grit of 400. A coat of Museum Wax was applied as a final treatment. I'm not sure that's Cherry wood. It was really hard stuff. I thought it might be Mahogany but the grain is too tight, wood too hard, doesn't smell like Mahogany. Rosewood? Not sure.
