Cherry Wood Bowl

This is a Cherry wood bowl measuring 7.25 inches diameter and 1.5 inches high. I was given a couple of beautiful pieces of Cherry wood by my brother-in-law, Alex Shashura. This stuff turns nicely and finishes beautifully with lovely "chatoyance" (that 3-dimensional effect in nicely finished wood grain). This bowl was wet sanded with Orange Oil and Beeswax and finished with a high-speed polish to give it a nice not-to-glossy shine. I didn't want to waste any of this beautiful wood so I even made a couple of small bowls out of the cut-offs, from cutting out this bowl. That's in the next post.

I've another piece of this wood and I can't wait to turn it. Thank you very much Alex!

Two Small Cherry Bowls

Here are a couple of small Cherry bowls I turned. They each measure 3 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches high. Wet sanded up to 320 grit with Orange Oil and Beeswax. I made these from left over pieces after I turned a bowl from wood given to me by me brother-in-law, Alex. Beautiful wood. Thanks, Alex!

Pear Box w/finial

Here's a Pear wood box measuring 3.5 inches in diameter by 4.75 inches high. The finial is spalted Maple and there's a green glass marble topping it off. I added a couple of beads at the joint of the base and the lid and on the top of the lid delineating the decorative textured band. This was wet sanded with orange oil.

Small Sycamore Bowl

This is a Sycamore wood bowl measuring 5 inches in diameter and 2.25 high. This is another wood that I like working with on the lathe. It's a pleasure to turn and finishes nicely. It has a beautiful tiny grain pattern and it's pretty hard wood.

Small Pear Wood Vase

This is a Pear wood vase measuring 3.25 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall. This wood is such a pleasure to turn, and it finishes nicely as well. I love working with it.

Walnut Wood Cup

Here's a Walnut wood cup, measuring 2.5" diameter and 2.5" tall.

Small Maple Dish

Here's a small spalted Maple dish measuring 3.75 inches in diameter. There's some bark left on the outside that didn't get cut away in shaping the bowl. Just getting practice making something out of a bit of scrap wood.

Small Pear Wood Bowl

This is a Pear wood bowl measuring 3.5 inches in diameter and 2 inches high. It was wet sanded up to 320 grit and finished with mineral oil and bees wax. I used my Sorby texturing tool for the texturing on the outer rim and around the base.

Pear and Walnut Wood Mini-Pots #1

Here are some mini-pots I turned as practice with lathe tools I don't normally use. The tallest one is just over 1.5 inches tall and the shorted one is about 3/4 of an inch high. The lighter colored ones are Pear wood, the dark one is walnut. These were wet sanded up to 320 grit and finished with mineral oil and bees wax.

Pear Wood Mini-Pots #2

Here are three Pear wood mini-pots. The tallest one is 2 inches high, the shortest one is just over one inch high. Wet sanded to 320 grit, finished with mineral oil and bees wax. I make these min-pots as practice with the lathe tools I don't use often.
