Spalted Maple Box #2

 Here's another spalted Maple box. This one measures 7 inches in diameter and 6.5 inches tall. There's a Walnut wood finial knob on top. A little less spalting on this one allows more of the natural Maple grain to show through. This was turned from a large chunk of Maple I've had in my shop for a couple of years. Nice to finally see what was inside it. As usual, this was mineral oil wet sanded up to 400 grit to a satin finish. There's a textured detail ring under the finial knob.

Big Spalted Maple Box

 Here's a wood turned box made from a big chunk of spalted Maple. It measures 6.5 inches high and 7.5 inches in diameter. There's a walnut wood finial knob. The grain matches nicely from lid to base. There's a texture detail ring on the bottom. As usual this was wet sanded with mineral oil up to 400 grit. Incredible spalting on this, and there's some nice natural maple grain showing through the spalting.

3 Footed Spalted Maple Canister

 Here's a very nicely done spalted Maple canister. It measures 6 inched high by 3.75 inches in diameter. I got the grain to match up nicely between the top and bottom. There's a Walnut wood knob on top. It has a 3 footed base. Wet sanded up to 400 grit with mineral oil. 

Small Spalted Maple Canister

 Here's another spalted Maple wood canister. This one measures 3.5 inches high by 1.5 inches in diameter. There's a clear glass sphere as a knob, some detail beads and a bark inclusion on the side that looks pretty cool. 

Small Walut Wood Canister

 Here's a small Walnut wood canister measuring 3 inches high and 1.75 inches in diameter. There's a glass sphere with an amber colored inclusion as a knob. There are a couple of detail rings on the lid as well. This is made from a couple of pieces of scrap wood, so the grain on the top and bottom don't match. There's a texture ring detail on the bottom. As usual, wet sanded with mineral oil. 

Walnut Wood Canister

 

This is a Walnut wood canister measuring 4 high by 2 inches in diameter. Wet sanded with mineral oil up to a 400 grit gives it a satin finish. I formed a bead at the base, and a texture ring near the rim of the lid. Also a texture ring on the bottom. There's a slightly amber glass sphere as a knob at the top. The canister has a slight taper from top to bottom. 

 

Spalted Maple Canister

 Here's a nice spalted Maple canister. It measures 2 inches in diameter and 4.25 inches high. The grain matches nicely between the lid and the canister. A bead was formed at the base of the canister and the rim of the lid. There's a glass sphere as a knob at the top. Wet sanded with mineral oil up to a grit of 400 gives this piece a beautiful satin finish, which actually feels like satin to the touch.
