A Small Scrap Wood Bowl

This is a small bowl made from bits of scrap wood glued together. It measures 4.5 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches high. The woods are, left to right, Oak, Mahogany, Poplar, Douglas Fir, Mahogany, Spruce, Rosewood, Spruce, Mahogany and Spalted Maple. The wood grain is going in all directions here. Not real pretty, but different.

A Small Spalted Maple Bowl

Here is a really nice spalted Maple bowl, 1.75 inches deep and 3.5 inches in diameter. A nice piece of spalted Maple with no soft spots. Nice little bowl.

Egg Shaped Mahogany Canister

This is a Mahogany wood canister, egg-shaped, 3.5 inches high and 1.75 inches in diameter. A bit of a challenge for myself. This came out rather well; the shape is nice, the walls are thin. A beautiful piece of wood, finished with a high speed polish.

Mahogany Canister

This canister is 3.25 inches high and 1.75 inches in diameter, made from Mahogany wood with a finish of high speed polish and Carnuba wax. I did a treatment on the top of the lid using a home made "chatter" tool, for texturing. That didn't come out very distinctly on this piece. Also the lid doesn't fit as snug as I like. Better luck next time. Still, not a bad attempt. Up 'til now it's been too cold to work out in my shop this winter. No heat in there.

Small Pear Wood Bowl

This is a Pear wood bowl, 1.75 inches high by 4 inches in diameter. This wood is a dream to turn, nice and smooth, and beautiful wood that finishes nicely. I'm looking forward to working more with this wood.

Turned Toothpick Cup

Here is a small toothpick cup turned on a lathe. One inch in diameter and a little over two inches high, it's made from spalted silver maple wood. It was supposed to be a lidded canister but the wood is a little too punky (soft from the decay that produces the spalting). I couldn't drill a straight and centered hole to make the interior, and so the lid wouldn't fit right. So, I punted and called it a toothpick cup.
