Pear Bowl
This is a Pear bowl measuring 6.5 inches in diameter and 2.75 inches high. Trying a new shape here. I made some detailing around the base using my Sorby texturing tool. Did this to hide where the lathe chuck left marks from its grip. Personally, I don't mind having a knot or other blemishes in my turnings, . . . within reason. I think it gives the piece a bit of character.

Personal Challenge Project
Here we have something I've wanted to try making for some time. A small "box" with a stand to hold it. The box is 2 inches in diameter and 4 inches high, made from a piece of Plum wood which had some knots, cracks and other voids which I filled with black CA glue which can be polished up nicely. The base (stand) and the finial are made of Pear wood. The stand measures 2 3/8 inches diameter and 1.75 inches high. I've added grooves and beads to both the box and the stand. The finish is mineral oil and beeswax. This was challenging to turn. The Plum wood is very hard with grain going in all directions. The stand was difficult to turn because of problems with holding it in the lathe while I cut it. I'm pretty happy with how it came out considering this is my first attempt at something like this.

Pear Wood Box with Finial
Here is a Pear wood box measuring 3.75 inches in diameter and 4 inches high. Knots and bark inclusions included. I used a bit of spalted Maple wood for the under-lid rail to make the lid seat properly. Finished with mineral oil and beeswax.

Yet Another Iron Bark Eucalyptus Bowl
This is a 6.5 diameter by 2 inch high Iron Bark Eucalyptus wood bowl with a nice slightly dished rim which overhangs the interior and exterior of the bowl. This wood actually gets quite dark with age, turning a nice deep red . . . if I'm lucky.

Small Iron Bark Eucalyptus Bowl #3
This is a 4.5 inch diameter by 2.25 inch high Eucalyptus bowl. I cut a couple of grooves just below the top rim. Beautiful grain. I love turning this wood even though it's hell on my tools because of it's hardness.
